Rome, 20 June 2025 – Ghella has been awarded the contract for the extension of Milan’s M1 metro line, a 3.3 km route with three new stations serving the neighborhoods of Baggio, Olmi, and Valsesia.
The contract, worth approximately 360 million euros including safety-related costs and the implementation of the Legality Protocol, was secured by a temporary joint venture composed of Ghella, the Eteria Consortium (which includes Vianini Lavori SpA, Itinera SpA, and I.CO.P. SpA Società Benefit), and C.M.B.
Specifically, the westward extension of the ‘red line’ will depart from the current Bisceglie station turnaround area with a fully underground route, featuring three stations (Parri-Valsesia, Baggio, and Olmi) and six auxiliary structures along the line. The tunnel will be excavated almost entirely using a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), thereby minimizing surface impacts.
The project includes several innovative solutions, such as state-of-the-art fire prevention technologies that ensure the highest levels of safety.
